After she delivered the glazed doughnuts, they put her to work on glazing duty.
Not only did Denise Tripoli, new manager of the City Bank inside Ace Hardware on Rice Street in Lihu‘e, come bearing gifts when she showed up at the Kamalani Pavilion building site Tuesday, but she stayed around to help, too.
Tripoli came to the site with eight cases of Krispy Kreme doughnuts she had flown over via Aloha Airlines cargo from Maui, notified The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park that her company would be donating two benches to the cause, and then was promptly assigned glazing duty of children’s art that will be installed in the pavilion structure over the next several days.
The teal-blue benches that are incorporated into the City Bank logo are a distinctive mark of the bank, and have been donated to Lydgate Park so community volunteers can decide at some later date exactly where to place the benches.
A plaque will go with the benches to mark the donation, Tripoli said.
Work began last week on the community’s building of Kamalani Pavilion not far from Kamalani Kai Bridge at Lydgate Park, makai of Wailua Golf Course. The build is being accomplished using materials left over from construction of the bridge, and volunteer labor.
Work is done seven days a week, in shifts from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to sunset, with lunch being offered to all volunteers, and child care available on some days.
The completion date is set for Wednesday, April 7.
