Mary Carlos
Mary Carlos of Kapa‘a died at home on Thursday, March 18, 2004, at the age of 84.
Born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines on March 5, 1920, she was a homemaker and an active member of the Kapaa Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Preceded in death by her husband Nemesio Mandac Carlos, she is survived by one son: Robert (Anita) Arconado of San Dimas, Calif.; three daughters: Evelyn (Bob) Haygood of Moss Point, Miss., Elizabeth Eaton of Kapa‘a and Erleen “Lynn” Spears of Kapa‘a; five grandchildren, Paul (Kathy) Spears of Wailua Homesteads, Randy Spears of Kapa‘a, Michael (Dee Dee) Arconado of Chino Hills, Calif., Michelle (Ronnie) Kingi of San Dimas, Calif. and Lisa Frankovich of Portland, Ore.; and seven great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two brothers: Joseph (Leona) Miguel of Apple Valley, Calif. and Paul Miguel of Germany; sister Florida (Frank) Padron of Honolulu and sister-in-law Jane Miguel of Pasadena, Calif.
Visitation with the family will be held at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary from 4 to 6:30 p.m. with services at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 25. Burial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 26, at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Robert “Bobby” Rivera Sr.
Robert “Bobby” Rivera Sr. died March 19, 2004, at his residence in Stockton, Calif. He was 66. A resident of Stockton for three years, he was formerly a longtime resident of Hayward, Calif. He was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Koloa. A journeyman paper cutter, he worked for many years for FP Label Company in San Bruno, Calif., and was an all-around athlete who excelled in baseball, football and track and field. He enjoyed gardening and raising rabbits and chickens, spending time with friends and family, and the Oakland Raiders.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer Rivera of Stockton; mother, Salome Rivera of Kalaheo; daughters Donna Ortiz of Kansas City, Mo. and Diana Rivera of Hayward; and son Rob Rivera Jr. of San Lorenzo, Calif. He is also survived by sisters Selma Rivera and Celia Mae Fraticelli, both of Kalaheo, and brother Charles R. Rivera, of Kapa‘a.
A time of remembrance is set for Saturday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a memorial service at noon, at Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel in Ripon, Calif. Services will be planned on Kaua‘i at a later date. Donations may be made to Hospice of San Joaquin, 2609 Hammer Ln., Stockton, CA 95210. Arrangements are being handled by Deegan Ripon Memorial Chapel.
Alina Kauinohea Kanahele
Alina Kauinohea Kanahele, 66, died at her residence in Kekaha March 22, 2004. Born on Ni‘ihau Aug. 6, 1937, she was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband Malaki Kanahele Sr.; sons Malaki (Sandi) Kanahele Jr., Kaohu (Leka) Kanahele, Kalana (Ella) Kanahele and Kuuwehi Kanahele; hanai sons Ku‘ualoha Nui Kaulia and Dillion Kanahele; daughters Lama Kaohelaulii, Minoaka (Hanaike) Kanahele and Pupu (Bennett) Duarte; and hanai daughter Iwalani Lani Kanahele; sister Emela Shintani and sister in law Hoonani Shintani; 30 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are several uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are Saturday, March 27, at 9 a.m. at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, with services beginning there at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery. The family suggests casual attire. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
