The University of Hawai‘i bid in the Third Round of the NIT will be televised locally on ESPN2.
Game time between UH and the Michigan Wolverines is scheduled for 9 p.m. EST (4 p.m. HST), Wednesday, Mar. 24.
HB forfeits in 19U hoops makeup
The Southside Boys took a 2-0 win in the KYBA 19 Under boys basketball Teen League as Hanamaulu Boys forfeited their match in a special ‘rained out’ makeup game played Monday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Earlier in the evening, Jeremy Manuel led Kalaheo with 20 points in their 50-40 win over ZZ (Lihu‘e-Venzon) with Tab Matsumoto adding 18 points.
Brandon Wong led ZZ with a dozen points followed by Ryan Cram finishing with eight points in the loss.
Chad Barba came up with a dozen points and Akeem Allen added 11 as the Westside Klowns pulled out a 38-36 win over Lihu‘e Medina who got a game-high 19 points from Brandon Ballesteros. Matthew Paloroan and Aaron Medina each chipped in six points.
BYUH women’s tennis wins 80th
LA‘IE, O‘ahu — The top-ranked Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i women’s tennis team won their 80th consecutive dual match today, defeating UH-Hilo, 8-1, to improve to 14-0 for the season. The streak is the second longest in Seasider history and the Seasiders kept it going today by sweeping the six singles matches after winning two of the three doubles contests.
Number-two ranked Adrienn Hegedus led the way at the number one singles position with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dorothee Beauvir. Hegedus teamed with Jing Jing Liu for an 8-2 win at the top doubles slot. Liu cruised to victory at number two singles, 6-0, 6-2, as did Judy Weng at the number four singles slot. Amy Sun also yielded just two games in taking the number five singles, 6-1, 6-1, and teamed with Weng for an 8-1 doubles win at number two. Anna Lewis and Gurianna Korinihona won for the Seasiders at number three and number six singles respectively, but the pair lost at number three singles in a tiebreaker.
The Seasiders will face Alabama State, Prairie View A & M, and Tuskegee in a trio of matches on Saturday in Montgomery, Alabama.
BYUH men’s tennis gets past UH-Hilo
LA‘IE, O‘ahu — The third-ranked Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i men’s tennis team defeated UH-Hilo on Monday, 7-2, to improve to 11-2 for the season. The Seasiders took five of the six singles before winning two of the three doubles matches to complete the victory, the fourth time the Seasiders have beaten the Vulcans this year.
