Hannah Kahawaii Niau Kaili
Hannah Kahawaii Niau Kaili, 78, died on March 18, 2004, in Provo, Utah. She was born in Kalihikai on Aug. 1, 1925.
She is survived by son Harrom (Marvel) Kaili of Puyallup, Wash.; three daughters: Dora (Kent) Daley of Provo, Utah, with whom she lived before moving from Makaweli, Harriet (William) Malapit of Wailuku, Maui and Emmaline Kaili of Lihu‘e; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister: Louisa (Larry) Tachikawa of Puhi; sisters-in-law: Lei Niau and Helen Dotimas; brother-in-law: George Kahalekomo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was educated in Hanalei. She labored in taro patches, pineapple and sugar cane fields, and was a hotel housemaid; she was also an entrepeneur who sold maile and mokihana berries.
A celebration of life will be held with a viewing on Thursday, April 1, 2004, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Borthwick Kauai Mortuary chapel, 3168 Poipu Road in Koloa. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Kekaha Ward. Burial will be at Kauai Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Hanapepe, beside her husband Joseph N. Kaili.
