Waimea defeats Island School, 4-1
The Waimea High School girls tennis team were successful against Island School, 4-1 at the Mar. 27 matches played at the Hanapepe Tennis Courts.
Jenny Guerber gave Island School their sole victory by taking the First Singles over Jenny Morita, 6-3, 6-2.
Waimea came back as Tori Kagawa earned the Second Singles with a three-game set over Tiana Kamen, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
The Menehune team of Sara Nonaka and Ashley Shimono captured the First Doubles event with a win over Jasmine Blass and Diana Cowern, 6-4, 6-1. Waimea’s team of Jenny Rumbaoa and Sharla Shimono pocked the Second Doubles by default as did the team of Erna Agmata and Taira Kajiwara in the Third Doubles.
Rumbaoa and Shimono came back to down Sky Smith and Juli Brachnowiak, 8-1 in the first of three consolation matches.
Agmata and Kajiwara teamed to hand Smith and Brachowiak their second defeat, 8-1, but the Island School Team of Guerber and Blass downed Mitze Seto and Kristine Sison, 9-7.
Kaua‘i Soccer Association games resume this week
After taking the Spring Break off so soccer players could attend the Kirk Banks tournament on O‘ahu, the full compliment of KSA soccer games will resume this week Saturday at the Wailua Houselots and Kapa‘a Beach Park.

Troy Barboza Run, Special Olympics this Saturday
The Special Olympics Kaua‘i would like to invite everyone to the First Hawaiian Bank Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run this Saturday, Apr. 3 starting at 7:15 a.m.
The Run precedes the Kaua‘i Special Olympics games where Special Olympians compete in their Track and Field Competition at Vidinha Stadium.
Registration for the Troy Barboza Torch Run takes place from 6:30 a.m. at the Lihu‘e First Hawaiian Bank with shuttle service from Vidinha Stadium to the bank starting from 6:30 to 6:55 a.m. and the run starting at 7:15 a.m.
A registration fee of $20 also covers the cost of a special commemorative tee-shirt.
The Special Olympics Kaua‘i is always looking for volunteers to assist with the various events throughout the year, and if you would like to make a difference in the lives of the many special individuals who receive support, encouragement, physical training and competition through the Special Olympics, you can volunteer by contacting Jocelyn Freitas at 652-8662.
