BYUH softball splits
LA‘IE, O‘ahu — The Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i women’s softball team split a non-conference double-header Monday with Chaminade as the Seasiders’ Lisa Hansen tossed a four-hit shutout in the first game to lead the Seasiders to a 1-0 victory.
The Silverswords came back to take the second game, 4-2 behind Natalie Alcala’s three RBI’s. With the split, the Seasiders move to 11-16 for the season, and Chaminade improves to 9-26.
BYUH scored the only run of game one in the sixth inning when Shea Seever doubled to right-center scoring Chynna Wilcox from second. Wilcox reached on a single and was sacrificed to second by Teresa Rushton before Seever’s gamewinner.
The run was all Hansen needed as she held the Silverswords to just four singles and one walk while striking out four for her third shutout of the season. Donnell Wittekind took the loss for the Silverswords despite allowing just three hits. Chaminade scored twice in the second and third innings and held off the Seasiders for the remainder of the contest. Rushton and Christensen each doubled home runs for BYUH, but Loihi Mckeague pitched out of trouble several times with several Seasiders having runners cut down on the basepaths, including one at home to stifle their scoring opportunities. Wittekind pitched the last inning for Chaminade to gain the save while Brooke Hilton suffered the loss for the Seasiders.
