LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i High Red Raider girls basketball teams emerged on the winning end of a foul-filled contest in both JV and varsity contests Saturday night, the varsity eking out a 37-32 win while the JV took a 39-30 victory at the buzzer.
Both varsity squads went shot-for-shot until the last half of the third quarter when Kaua‘i pulled ahead, and increased the lead midway through the last frame.
Ali Jackson had the sole Raider field goal in the fourth quarter and joined Ulu Kelekoma to lead Kaua‘i in the win, each Raider netting six points in the contest.
Kapa‘a also could muster only a single field goal in the final stanza as Jackie Alapai found the bucket finishing with six points, two points shy of the game-high eight points netted by Brittney Carvalho.
Cherisse Rapozo tallied a game-high 11 points to lead the JV Raiders with Carie Inouye and Darcie Allianic each adding eight.
April Johnson had the hot hand for Kapa‘a, finishing with nine points followed by Kristin Cruz adding six.
Tuesday night, Waimea takes the trip out to the Bernice Hundley Gym to take on Kapa‘a with the JV contest starting at 5:30 p.m.
