A 57-year-old Kapahi man was assaulted Saturday after allowing the suspect, a homeless man, to spend the night at his residence.
According to police, the man was apparently assaulted at his Kapahi residence about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, by an acquaintance, a homeless man that the victim had let spend the night at his home, said Cyndi Mei Ozaki, county public information officer.
After assaulting the victim with his fists, the suspect reportedly stole the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene. The car turned up hours later on the North Shore, Ozaki added.
The victim was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, and due to severe head injuries, was flown to The Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu for further treatment, she said.
His condition was not immediately available.
A reliable description of the man’s assailant could not be produced because the victim is in such poor condition, Ozaki said.
