Alfredo Onsaga
Alfredo Navarrete Onsaga of Hanama‘ulu died April 9, 2004, at his home at the age of 95.
Preceded in death by his son, John Onsaga he is survived by two grandchildren: Fred (Michele) Onsaga of Las Vegas and Charlene Onsaga; six great grandchildren; one step great great great grandchild – Aiden Bernardino; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 13, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia. Visitation starts at 9 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
Vincent Davies Lizama
Vincent Davies Lizama aka “Jack” or “Skippy” of Jonesboro, Ga., died April 8, 2004, at the age of 74.
Born July 23, 1929 in Oakland, Calif., he was preceded in death by his parents, John Corea Lizama and Laverne Leah Davis and stepfather Maury T. McClain. He is survived by his stepmother: Helen Lizama of Kaua‘i; wife, Emilie Christine “Chris” Moyers, seven children: Michael “Catherine” Lizama of Euclid, Ohio; Christopher “Mark” (Sherry) Lizama of Stockbridge, Ga., John (Teresa) Lizama of Alto, Ga., Cynthia “Missie” Lizama of McDonough, Ga., SFC Joseph “Jody” (Cheryl) Lizama of Fort Gordon, Ga., Julia Lizama and Vincent Lizama; 11 grandchildren; and four half brothers and sisters, June Layosa, Gail Smith, John Lizama and Alan Lizama, all of Kaua‘i.
Memorial service will be held at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Jonesboro, Ga., Tuesday, April 13, at 11 a.m. Graveside service to be held at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro, Va., on Thursday, April 15, 2004, at 2 p.m.
The Cremation Society of the South is in charge of arrangements.
Sadayo Nakai
Sadayo Kunimura Nakai of Kapa‘a, Kauai, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 7, 2004, at the age of 92.
Born in Koloa, on July 25, 1911, she was a seamstress with Coco Palms Hotel.
She is survived by son, Howard (April) Nakai of Kaneohe, O‘ahu; three daughters, Helen (Dr. George) Ota of Hilo, Penny Ellyn Fujita of Kapa‘a and Judith (Lloyd) Funada of Honolulu; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Bette (Noboru) Nakagawa of Honolulu.
Services were held Monday at the Lihue Hongwanji Mission. Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Sueo Furumoto
Sueo Furumoto of Kealia, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on April 9, 2004 at the age of 76.
Born in Kealia, Kaua‘i on Aug. 25, 1927, he was a journeyman mechanic with Hawaiian Canneries & Lihue Plantation.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; three daughters, Alix (Lou) Jourdain of Las Vegas, Colene (Jace) Schaefer of Kealia and Avis (Gerad) Koerte of Hanama‘ulu; three sons, Mark (Tracie) Furumoto of Kealia, Richard (Mandy) Furumoto of Wailua Homestead and Kerry Furumoto of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Momoyo Kasaoka of Honolulu and Sadako Fujiuchi of Kealia; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 17, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service officiated by Rev. Morita will begin at 3 p.m. followed by burial at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Manuel “Manny” K. Freitas
Manuel “Many K. Freitas, of Hilo, died on March 28, 2004, at O‘ahu State Hospital in Kaneohe, O‘ahu, at the age of 64.
Born Aug. 28, 1939, he was a retired crash and rescue firefighter at the Honolulu International Airport and also a bus driver for Terminal Transport at Honolulu International Airport. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife: Bernice Villanueva Freitas of Hilo; three sons: Franklin (Geri) Borling of Honolulu, Peter (Melinda) James of Hilo and Garrett Freitas of Hilo; four daughters: Susan (Hawyn) Jeremiah of Hilo, Anita (Alfred) Seals of Waimea, Esther Pila of Waimea and Denise (Glenn) Freitas-Ferreira of Hilo; his mother: Margaret V. Freitas of ‘Oma‘o; sister Mildred (Albert) Souza of Lawai; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside urn burial will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 in Hilo.
Casual attire is suggested.
