Who gave anyone the divine right to entitle folks to ride a bike along the beachfront? Walking, running, skipping and big-wheel-wheelchair use seems an adequate outlet for the majority of humans. As part of the public, we don’t want the beachfront compromised by unsightly, man-made concrete paths. Once a path is established, do we truly want the detritus of humans (i.e., spit-out gum, discarded wrappers, thrown away cigarettes & matches, dropped fast-food trash) to further clutter and continuously adversely affect the present pristine nature of this area?
Just because you, mayor, have made this bike path a political position/campaign promise does not pronounce this a great idea!
We who are lucky enough to live on this island do not want exclusive access to the ocean — just no concrete, no roller blades and no bikes to topple the walkers and strollers.
We often watch people fishing on the reef, others bringing an umbrella and cooler to spend the day and still other groups coming to the ocean for several hours of playing in the tide pools. The folks we watch and often converse with do not live on the coast yet have no trouble finding the oceanfront and using it to everyone’s delight.
