Alan Van Zee of Lawa‘i won Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative’s first “Electric Idol” title and the recording contract that comes with it, at the KIUC annual meeting Sunday at the Kilohana Carriage House in Puhi.
Kimiko Osaki won a trip to Las Vegas for two, courtesy of Mokihana Travel, as one of many winners in random-drawing giveaways.
Van Zee performed “Your Song,” made popular by Elton John, to the delight of the crowd and judges Arnold “Simon” Meister, Malia “Paula” Tokioka and Tommy “Randy” Tokioka.
Van Zee wins a trip to Honolulu and a professional recording session to record his version of the Touchstone Energy theme song, “We Shine As One,” to be used in KIUC promotional TV and radio spots.
KIUC is part of Touchstone, a national organization of electric cooperatives.
