As many as 75 participants competed in the Pitch, Hit, and Run Competition hosted by the Kaua‘i Police Activities League (KPAL) on April 13 at the Kapa‘a Ballpark.
Jared Ross Lopez of Kapa‘a won the 13-14 age group overall, pitching, and hitting categories with scores of 708, 300, and 358. Jordan Leanio won the running competition with a score of 241.
In the 11-12 division, Palani Mawae of Anahola got the first-place nod with a score of 737 to take the overall title. Kysen Lopez of Kapa‘a won the pitching competition with a score of 375. Paul Correa of Kalaheo got the hitting and running titles with scores of 396 and 260.
Dallas Correa of Kalaheo scored 550 points in the 9-10 year old category, to take home the top overall prize with a 550. Correa also won the pitching (225) and running (143) titles. Earl Thronas Jr. of Kapa‘a was the hit champ with a 324.
Lucas Gushikuma of Kapa‘a won the 7-8 year old division overall title with a score of 388. Gushikuma also won the running category (82) and tied for the pitching title with Lopaka Ventura (150). Kyana Hirokane got the hitting title with a score of 180.
Sectional all-around champions become eligible to qualify for the team championship, held in San Diego.
Pitch, Hit, and Run is a baseball skills competition that allows youngsters to showcase their talents in pitching, hitting, and running with scores determined by individual performances in each skills event.
