HONOLULU — A 23-year-old Kapa‘a woman who is attending Hawaii Pacific University was crowned Miss Hawai‘i 2004 on Friday night.
Miss West O‘ahu Olena Rubin was selected from a field of 13 contestants in the annual pageant at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki.
Miss Kaua‘i, Mi Nei Oliver, won the Miss Congeniality award at the pageant.
Rubin, who is a sophmore at Hawaii Pacific University, is a 1998 graduate of Kapa‘a High School.
Rubin won both the swimsuit competition and the talent contest at the Miss Hawai‘i pageant.
Her talent performance selection was a vocal rendition of Hawai‘i-raised singer Bette Midler’s “Do You Want To Dance?”
Her platform presentation was “The ABCs of HIV.”
Rubin is to represent Hawai‘i at the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, N.J. on Sept. 18.
Rubin was crowned by Miss Hawai‘i 2003 Kanoelani Gibson, of Kapolei. Gibson was the first runner-up in last year’s Miss America pageant.
Miss Honolulu Amber Stone was named the first runner-up, followed by Miss Island Ilima Lyanna Tumaneng, Miss O‘ahu Liana Green and Miss Leeward Malika Dudley.
