Kaua‘i teams again performed well in the USA Hockey Inline Regional Championships held in hot and muggy Kona over the Kamehameha Day weekend. The eight-and-under and 12-and-under teams brought home gold medals by dominating their respective divisions. The 10-and-under team came in second and the 17-and-under team finished third. Kaua‘i fielded an extremely young 14-and-under team, with five players under 12 playing and fell in their three games.
Under USA Hockey rules, girls are allowed to play down one age bracket. The eight-and-unders beat O‘ahu 6-0 and Kona 5-1 in the preliminary round and triumphed over O‘ahu 8-4 in the championship game.
Cascade Mayer paced the Mites with 6 goals and 2 assists and sister Sierra contributed 4 goals and 2 assists. Jean-Luc Tremblay also added 4 goals and 3 assists. Cydney Sitzler was outstanding in goal for Mites.
