KALAHEO — Aiko Grande came up with 10 of Kaumakani’s 14 fourth-quarter points, and seven of their 12 first half points to lead the Supersonics to a sweep of the KYBA girls basketball games Wednesday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Battling in the Girls 14 Under group, Grande finished with a game-high 22 points in their 39-30 win over the Lihu‘e Comets.
Trailing 24-12 at the half, the Supersonics exploded for rebounds on both ends of the court, capitalizing on the snags and outgunning the Comets, 26-6 in the second half.
The Comets’ Sanoe Keliinoi unleashed one from three-pointland in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter. But, the effort came a little too late as the Supersonics had turned the tables on the Lihu‘e team, Gino Keliinoi, Sanoe’s father noting, “Great comeback.” Lorrine Lagoc-Agrade lit the Kaumakani fuse in the third quarter, scoring all of her game-total eight points in the frame with Grande adding a pair of buckets, but it was Lagoc-Agrade that erased the deficit and deadlocked the contest before turning the reins over to the Grande scoring machine.
