The Kaua‘i Junior Golf Mitchell Ota match play tournament held on July 25 saw many new faces at the top as well as some familiar names taking the top prize for their category.
In the boys 14-18 championship flight, Sean Ogawa came out on top, defeating Layne Morita, 3/2. Nikko Tacsiat took home third-place honors over Stephen Peeren, 4/3.
The boys 13-18 A flight came down to Travis Toguchi and Cyrus Ogawa, with Toguchi triumphing with a 3/2 win. Third-place went to Markland Soliva, who beat Jet Levinthol, 1 up.
Kimberly Yama dominated the girls 15-18 flight with a win over Shelcie Takenouchi, 2/1. Wiley Yoshioka came through with the victory over Grant Paiste, 5/4 in the boys 13-14 division. Byron Rualizo took the third-place nod over Taylor Bell, 2/1.
In the boys and girls 11-12 division, Rae-lyn Morikawa outlasted Malia Saiki, 5/4 for first-place and Kyle Furusho defeated Noa Matsuyoshi, 4/3 for third-place.
The boys 10-and-under division saw Justin Uegawa beat Nathan Wong for the win, 3/2. Dylan Balisican came through with the third-place win over Kai Adachi, 8/7.
