Shelly Gerardo, executive assistant at the Sheraton Kauai Resort, was busy with the shave ice at the first annual Ho‘okulaia (Dew U courtesy of Raymond Duarte) event Saturday, and it doesn’t end there since she’ll be at one of the Cold Stone Creamery Thursday for the Special Olympics cake social from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Was nice to see Lynette Apana-White (check out that Taylor Made mini), again, and following her gig with Beverly Kauanui, Lynette said the Taylors are made for wahine…actually she has a Baby Martin, but no pickup…was it coincidence that I just happened to see Scotty Shapiro that day, too? Glenna Ueunten (warabi ashibi coming up Aug. 9- 11) didn’t need the teru-teru on Friday night at the WK Hongwanji, Hanapepe Temple bon dance (nice to see Mayor Bryan Baptiste making the rounds, too) since the weather was so nice, and Takeshi Fujita had some unique soursop sherbet (you need to taste it!) at affordable prices. Myles and Wanda Shibata had the ‘ohana on hand to enjoy all those food offerings (where did Lyle Kobashigawa get that stainless-steel tarae?).
The bon dance was a perfect stop on the way home from the Kaua‘i Fantasy Softball Tournament (thank you, coach Albert Soto for calling in the final results, and Dondi Viquelia for the Kekaha Coke!), and it was meant to be since there was a parking space just waiting to be filled.
Hokuala coach Darrell Borrero and Norvin Olivas had the right idea as they joined the Albert Soto ‘ohana to close down the park on both Thursday and Friday.
