State officials will no longer sponsor an annual driver-education instructor training course, which is offered to those interested in becoming certified driver-education instructors for youth ages 17 years and younger.
An upcoming driver education instructor training course will be held on O‘ahu, Aug. 14 to Sept. 12. the next training course has been tentatively scheduled in three years on O‘ahu in 2007. A training course may be held sooner depending on the demand for driver-education instructors.
The cost for the upcoming training course is $735, which includes a $700 course fee and $35 book fee. The deadline to register is Friday, Aug. 13. The following is a description of the driver-education instructor training course:
Part I: Classroom methods and the administration of traffic safety education program. The 80-hour course includes classroom methods, content and principles in teacher driver education through the analysis of the driving task.
Part II: Laboratory methods of teaching traffic safety education program (Pre-requisite: successful completion of Part I). The 24-hour course focuses on behind-the-wheel instruction and is designed to prepare traffic-safety educators to teach the classroom phases of traffic-safety education.
