Governor Linda Lingle has signed a proclamation designating September as Women’s Health Month in Hawai‘i. In her proclamation, she urges “our residents to support these ongoing efforts and thereby promote the health of all women.” The Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women has sponsored Women’s Health Month for the last decade. This year marks the 11th Annual Women’s Health Month, with the theme of “Women’s Fitness — Body, Mind and Soul.”
There are more than 1,100 events statewide during the month of September for women, children and their families to participate. “The purpose of Women’s Health Month is to educate people on women’s health issues and to empower women to be their won health advocates. We want to promote the physical and emotional well-being of women in Hawai‘i,” said Faye Kurren, chair of the Hawaii State Commission of the Status of Women. Hawai‘i’s Women’s Health Month is an award-winning program, receiving the “Outstanding Achievement Award” by the National Association of Commissions for Women.
