Mary Wesuk Kim
Mary Wesuk Kim of Kapa‘a died Aug. 22, 2004, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 85.
Born March 31, 1919, in Honokaa, Hawai‘i, she was a retired teacher at Wilcox School.
She is survived by her husband: Dr. Peter Kim of Kapa‘a; one son: Peter S. (Lucy) Kim of California; one daughter: Dr. Marilyn (Dr. Kit) Farr of Massachusetts; one sister; Dora Lum of Honolulu; two brothers; Joseph (Mary) Han of Honolulu and Samuel (Betsy) Han of Pennsylvania; and one grandson.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 26, at Lihue United Church at 10 a.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
Godfrey ‘Kaipo’ Kealalio II
Godfrey “Kaipo” Kealalio II was born on June 1, 1947, in Honolulu. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan, daughter Kiilani Kealalio-Puli (Makaena), sons Kaipo and James, grandson Treyton, brothers Leroy (Lois), Lawrence “Sooky” (Christine), Scott (Lorraine); sister Faye (Patrick) Umalla, and many family and friends.
Originally from Aiea, Kaipo moved to Kaua‘i in 1983 to become the district executive for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Vietnam veteran, member of the Rotary Club of Kapaa, coach of many community and high school sports teams, and contributed to many other nonprofit organizations.
Kaipo believed in “giving back” to the community by instilling good morals and values in children because they would become the leaders of tomorrow.
“Uncle” Kaipo was known for his big smile, and for making everyone feel like family. He will be missed by many, and will live in our hearts forever. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29 at Borthwick Mortuary on O‘ahu, with service at 2 p.m. Aloha attire is suggested, and the family requests that flowers be omitted.
Services on Kaua‘i will be Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Vidinha Stadium, with visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and services to start at 7 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Mortuary.
Hiralene “Hira” Johnson
Hiralene “Hira” Uilaniahmi Johnson of Wailua, died Aug. 18, 2004, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 42.
An office manager at Kauai Sands and also a teacher’s aide at Kapa‘a Elementary School, she was born Nov. 12, 1961, in Wahiawa, O‘ahu.
She is survived by her husband: Scott Johnson of Wailua; five daughters: Mohala Johnson of Washington, Keolalani Johnson of Honolulu, Kuuleimana Johnson of Honolulu, Mikiala Johnson of Wailua and Leialalani Johnson of Wailua; parents: Hiram and Leimomi Hee of Wailua; two hanai children: Wesley Hee of Las Vegas, Nev., and Kehaulani Hee of Wailua; two sisters:
Wendy (Kalani) Cotner of Baghdad, and Kee-Lan (David) Lambert of Arizona; two brothers; Henry “Keave” (Grace) Hee of Hanama‘ulu and Hiram “Mel” (Amy) Hee of California; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Saturday, Aug. 28, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., where services will be celebrated at noon. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Koolauloa Meatoga
Koolauloa Meatoga of Kapa‘a died Aug. 10, 2004, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 76. Born May 23, 1928, in La‘ie, O‘ahu, he was a unit representative in the construction industry.
He is survived by five sons: Bruce Meatoga of Oregon, Brian Meatoga of Kapa‘a, Kenneth (Lynette) Meatoga of Kalaheo, Henry Kamaunu of O‘ahu, Thurston Kamaunu of O‘ahu; four daughters: Debra H. Meatoga of Kapa‘a, Tracey Kamaunu of O‘ahu, Nobleen Kamaunu of Maui, and Melody Kamaunu of Oregon; one sister: Anovale Napoleon of O‘ahu; one brother: John (Amalia) Meatoga of Utah; 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Friends may call on Saturday, Aug. 28, at Kapaa First Hawaiian Church from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., where memorial services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow at St. Catherine’s Church Cemetery. William J. “Bill” Lane
William J. “Bill” Lane of Mililani, formerly of Kaua‘i, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at Kaiser Foundation Hospital at the age of 71. Born Sept. 20, 1932 in Los Angeles, Calif., he was a retired sergeant major with the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Gloriana “Nani” Lane; sons, Michael Lane and William H. Lane of California; daughters, Lucille Waiwaiole of Ewa Beach, O‘ahu, Anela (Jonathan) Kael of California; Billie Kay (Robert) Sheldon of Mililani, O‘ahu, Edwina Malia (Don) Kimura of Wailua, Kendra Leinani Au, Ilima (Pat) Lopez of Keapana, and Shawn (Cookie) Perreira of Wailua; 20 grandchildren including Feather, Joseph and Daniel Lane, Jayden Kael, Regan, Randi, and Ralna Sheldon, Niko and Waiko Kimura, Jayci, Rayna, and Nelson Au, Kaleo, Kai, Kaimi, Kysen, Jenna and Jordan Lopez, and Ryan Perreira; five great grandchildren including Brenden Perreira, and Braeven Perreira; and one brother, Harrison Melville Lane.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Center from 10 a.m. to noon. A celebration of his life will follow. Scattering of ashes will be private.

Sandra E. Tsukamoto of Kapa‘a, died Aug. 23, 2004, at her home in Kapa‘a at the age of 60.
A homemaker, she was born May 27, 1944, in Honolulu. Preceded in death by her daughter, Dawn Tsukamoto and brother Duke Billedeaux, she is survived by her husband, George Tsukamoto of Kapa‘a; one son: George T. (Rie) Tsukamoto of Washington; two daughters: Jadelyn (Jeff) Tsukamoto of Oregon and Laverne (Wendell) Tsukamoto of Kapa‘a; four grandchildren: Taylor, Chance, Keoki and Kamaile; eight sisters: Henrietta (John) Baker, Patricia (John) Barros, Dale Kamai, Pamela (Phil) Arbitrario, Donna (Gary) Boteilho, Lei (Raymond) Tavares, Bernice (Danny) Kamai- Sutton, and Edine (Ka‘anoi) Clemente; four brothers: Raymond Kamai, Ralph Kamai, Ku (Jeanine) Kamai, and Brian Kamai and sisterin- law Ginger Billedeaux.

George Matsunaga
George Matsunaga, of Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Aug. 23, 2004, at the age of 66.
Born in Lihu‘e, on Jan. 22, 1938, he was a retired librarian with Hanalei and Kilauea schools.
Preceded in death by his wife, Susanne M. Matsunaga; brother, Seichi Ogata; sister, Grace Humphreys; brothers-in-law, Harutoshi Hironaka and Bill Humphreys; and sister-inlaw, Amy Ogata, he is survived by two sons, Kevin (Aileen) Matsunaga of Lihu‘e and Ryan Matsunaga of New York City; three grandchildren; three brothers, Maui Ogata, Paul (Arline) Matsunaga and Harold Matsunaga; two sisters, Michie Hironaka and Mildred (Donald) Chang; sisterin- law, Yoshie Ogata; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; urn service to begin at 4 p.m.

Charles Kohei Watanabe of Kaua‘i died Aug. 18, 2004, at Garden Isle Health Care at the age of 93. Born April 2, 1911, in Kealia, he was a carpenter for the County of Kaua‘i. He is survived by three daughters: Karen (Richard) Nakano of Kona, Jean (Bruce) Kinoshita of O‘ahu, and Gail (Calvin) Sagara of O‘ahu; two sons: Wayne (Kathy) Watanabe of O‘ahu and Dennis Watanabe of Kapa‘a; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services have been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Kapaa United Church of Christ at 3 p.m. Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
David W. Elwood
David W. Elwood of Koloa, died Aug. 23, 2004, at his home at the age of 48.
Born June 7, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was a carpenter. He is survived by his wife: Yvonne Elwood of Koloa; mother: Louise Blaine of Missouri; one brother: Jerry Elwood of Koloa and one sister: Patricia (Jim) Foraker of Kansas; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at a later date.
