U.S. Air Force Capt. Skyler “Coma” Hester, son of Kim Hester of Kalaheo, will be going back into the Persian Gulf war zone in May of next year.
Later this year, though, the 1995 Kaua‘i High School graduate has some unfinished business of a personal kind.
In November, he will come home to marry his girlfriend, also a U.S. Air Force Captain, Sharon L.
Phillips. The honeymoon may have to wait, though, as he’ll return to Aviano Air Force Base in Aviano, Italy, and she’ll finish her master’s degree in organizational psychology in Los Angeles while working in the procurement division at the Los Angeles Air Force Base.
Hester, of the “Baghdad Buzzards” F-16 fighter pilots of “Nickel” Squadron at Aviano, finished his first rotation into the war zone, and has another four-month deployment scheduled to begin in May of next year.
His mother is an appraiser in the County of Kaua‘i Finance Department Real Property Assessment division.
