Ismael Bautista
Ismael Corpuz Bautista of Koloa, died Sept. 21, 2004, at his home at the age of 73.
Born March 4, 1931, in Hilo, he was a farmer for Diamond Head Farms.
He is survived by two sons: Nericio (Estrella) Bautista of Hanama‘ulu and Fred (Ofelia) Bautista of Kapa‘a; three daughters: Dolores (Edwin) Dela Cruz of Maui, Marcy (Prudencio) Mabute of Kapa‘a and Angie Fevella of Koloa; one brother: Luduvico Bautista of Hanama‘ulu; 25 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, at Immaculate Conception Church, where Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Bill. Burial to follow at Lihue Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Sandy J. Pacheco
Sandy “Big One” J. Pacheco of ‘Oma‘o, died at Straub Hospital on Sept. 22, 2004 at the age of 53.
Born in Lihu‘e, on Dec. 28, 1950, he was a private contractor with Taba Construction Co., LLC.
Preceded in death by his father, Sandalio T. Pacheco and two sisters, Jeanette Pacheco and Mary Ellen Ulii, he is survived by three sons, Cilio (Tasha) Pacheco of Kaua‘i, Tyrel Pacheco of Alaska and Lenny (Florene) Abad of New Mexico; daughter Camie K. Abad of Maui; eight grandchildren; mother, Lucy Vales Pacheco; brother, Gerald (Veronica) Pacheco; sister Joyce (David) Okinaka.
Friends may visit with the family from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service officiated by Pastor Harold Kilborn will begin at 10 a.m., followed by burial at Koloa Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
Arrangements are being handled by Williams Funeral Service & Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Betty Sora
Betty Fusae Sora of Lihu‘e died at home on Sept. 11, 2004, at the age of 78.
Born in Lihu‘e, on July 10, 1926, she was a retired registered nurse with Wilcox Hospital.
She is survived by three daughters, Leslie (Steven) Kawada of Honolulu, Corinne Nakamoto of Honolulu and Adele (Lon) Shimanuki of Lihu‘e; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, James K. (Sumie) Yamauchi of Lihue; two sisters-in-law, Madeline Yamauchi and Tomie Yamauchi, both of Lihu‘e; numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Lihue Christian Church; service to begin at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Helen Okamoto
Helen Yoshie Okamoto of Wailua Houselots, died Sept. 22, 2004, at her home at the age of 79.
Born March 8, 1925, in Lihu‘e, she was a postmaster.
She is survived by her husband, Noboru “Lefty” Okamoto of Wailua Houselots; three sons: Carlton Okamoto of Honolulu, Stanley Okamoto of Maui and Stephen Okamoto of Kaua‘i; one daughter: Arleen Powell of Koloa; two brothers: Satoru Nakamura of Los Angeles and George (Janet) Nakamura of Olympia, Wash.; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Lihu‘e Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. Service at 11 a.m. Private burial to be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
Gilbert W. Carvalho
Gilbert W. Carvalho of Lawa‘i, died Sept. 24, 2004, at Straub Clinic & Hospital, in Honolulu at the age of 69.
Born July 14, 1935, in Hanama‘ulu, he was a retired County Council Services supervisor.
He is survived by his wife: Patricia Carvalho of Lawa‘i; two daughters: Helene Valmoja of Lawa‘i and Bernardine (Richard) Rasay of Lawa‘i; two sons; David (Karen) Carvalho of Lawa‘i and Jason Carvalho of Nevada City, Calif.; two sisters: Lillian Manago of Lawa‘i and Rosemarie (Jose) Costales of Lawa‘i; nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, one niece and two nephews. Friends may call on Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Raphael’s Church from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. with Funeral Mass scheduled at 11 a.m.
Burial to follow at St. Raphael Cemetery. The family suggests casual attire. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Priscilla Gummerus
Priscilla Mae Delos Reyes Gummerus of Hanama‘ulu, died Sept. 2, 2004, at Queen’s Medical Center at the age of 50.
Born Nov. 10, 1953, in Lihu‘e, she was employed by Tropical Burgers & More.
Preceded in death by her son: John Phillip Gummerus and her mother Abelina Delos Reyes, she is survived by three sons: Dustin (Kim) Gummerus of Hanapepe, Donovan (Monica) Gummerus of San Diego and Chad Gummerus of Hanama‘ulu; one daughter: Cathryn (Burke) Gummerus of Nevada; her father: Felipe Delos Reyes of Hanama‘ulu; six brothers: Philip Delos Reyes of Lihu‘e, Kenneth Delos Reyes of Puhi, Bobby Delos Reyes of Puhi, Roland Delos Reyes of Florida, Jason Delos Reyes of Hanama‘ulu, Samuel Delos Reyes of Honolulu; two sisters: Kathleen Delos Reyes of Hanama‘ulu and Janice (Raynard) Ellis of Hanapepe; three grandchildren: Tustin Kaikoa, Kierstin Kailani Abelina, and Jaden Kai Gummerus, numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.
