Helen Yoshie Okamoto of Wailua Houselots, died Sept. 22, 2004, at her home at the age of 79.
Born March 8, 1925, in Lihu‘e, she was a postmaster.
She is survived by her husband; Noboru “Lefty” Okamoto of Wailua Houselots; three sons: Carlton Okamoto of Honolulu, Stanley Okamoto of Maui and Stephen (Karen) Okamoto of Kaua‘i; one daughter: Arleen Powell of Koloa; two brothers: Satoru Nakamura of Los Angeles and George (Janet) Nakamura of Olympia, Wash.; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Lihu‘e Christian Church at 10:30 a.m. Service at 11 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and asks that flowers be omitted. Private burial will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
Priscilla Gummerus
Priscilla Mae Delos Reyes Gummerus of Hanama‘ulu, died Sept. 23, 2004, at Queen’s Medical Center at the age of 50.
Born Nov. 10, 1953, in Lihu‘e, she was employed by Tropical Burger.
Preceded in death by her son: John Phillip Gummerus and her mother Abelina Delos Reyes, she is survived by three sons: Dustin (Kim) Gummerus of Hanapepe, Donovan (Monica) Gummerus of San Diego and Chad Gummerus of Hanama‘ulu; one daughter: Cathryn (Burke) Gummerus of Nevada; her father: Felipe Delos Reyes of Hanama‘ulu; six brothers: Philip Delos Reyes of Lihu‘e, Kenneth Delos Reyes of Puhi, Bobby Delos Reyes of Puhi, Roland Delos Reyes of Florida, Jason Delos Reyes of Hanama‘ulu, Samuel Delos Reyes of Honolulu; two sisters: Kathleen Delos Reyes of Hanama‘ulu and Janice (Raynard) Ellis of Hanapepe; three grandchildren: Tystin Kaikoa, Kierstin Kailani Abelina, and Jaden Kai Gummerus, numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a at 9 a.m. Services at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Ismael Bautista
Ismael Corpuz Bautista of Koloa, died Sept. 21, 2004, at his home at the age of 73.
Born March 4, 1931, in Hilo, he was a farmer for Diamond Head Farms.
He is survived by two sons: Nericio (Estrella) Bautista of Hanama‘ulu and Fred (Ofelia) Bautista of Kapa‘a; three daughters: Dolores (Edwin) Dela Cruz of Maui, Marcy (Prudencio) Mabute of Kapa‘a and Angie Fevella of Koloa; one brother: Luduvico Bautista of Hanama‘ulu; 25 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, at Immaculate Conception Church, where Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Bill. Burial to follow at Lihue Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Donald L. Gebers
Donald Louis Gebers of Kalaheo died on Sept. 25, 2004, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital following complications from pneumonia secondary to a fall in his home. His daughters were at his bedside.
Donald was born in Lincoln, Iowa, on Jan. 1, 1929, the son of John Fred Gebers and Nellie Marae Castor Gebers. He graduated from Reinbeck High School in Iowa in 1946 and received his Engineering Degree from the University of Iowa in 1950. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was accepted to OCS and trained in electronics. After his discharge he worked as a research chemist, then was employed at Stanford University in nuclear physics. After his move to Kaua‘i, he completed a number of contracts at the Pacific Missile Range.
He was an expert woodcraftsman and enjoyed many years of woodworking in his spare time. After his retirement, he spent much of his time converting old records to CDs. He was known as the “Musicman” for his love and extensive knowledge of the music from the Jazz era.
He married Delores Hammond in 1949, and they had one daughter, Lorinda Hastings, who presently resides in Quartz Hill, Calif. They later divorced.
In 1959, Donald married Janis Free, with whom he had a daughter, Suzanne Marae Glassy of Medford, Ore. He and Jan were later divorced.
As well as his daughters, Donald is survived by his sister, Jeanne Bellefeuille of Cupertino, Calif., his brother, John William Gebers of Fairfield, Calif., 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
There will be a private family service. Donations to his memory may be made to the Koloa Public Library.
