The Kaua‘i Keiki and High School Rodeo Association (KKHSRA) held their first event of the 2004-2005 season on Sunday at CJM Country Stables in Po‘ipu.
The contestants along with family and friends were graced with a beautiful day. The format changed somewhat this year with the addition of the Jr. Rodeo division.
Keiki’s ages 5-11 rodeo’d first. Some of the standouts for the Keiki Division were Ross Brun (5-8 division), winning the Dummy Roping, Brittney Ludington-Braun (9-11 division) running a lightning fast barrel run, and Kira Blackstad-Pimental (9-11 division) proved unbeatable in the pole bending event, The Shimogawa brothers ruled the Dally Team event on Sunday. Both Gavin and Marcus Shimogawa won in their respective divisions. Marcus (Jr. Rodeo) smoked the competition placing first and second with Randy Brun and big brother Gavin. Gavin answered the call placing first in the HS Division with partner Kody Yamamoto. Kelli Carviero flew effortlessly thru the barrel pattern to win the Jr. Divison barrels. The next KKHSRA event will be held at CJM on Oct. 17.
