LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Sophmore Brendan Young continued his touchdown scoring spree with three more last night, as the Red Raiders cruised past the Menehune, 48-6.
Young even set up the first Red Raider TD with a 35 yard scamper in the first quarter, which enabled quarterback Andrew Renaud to connect with Jonathan Gebauer for the 35-yard TD. Lemke was able to punch the PAT through the uprights for a 7-0 lead.
Waimea’s Kapena Tehero ran for 16 yards on the early Menehune drive, which was halted by Kaua‘i’s tough defense. In the second quarter, Young struck on his first TD, a three yard run to the right, along with Lemke’s PAT, that gave Kaua‘i the 14-0 advantage. Waimea’s Adam Dizol came away with numerous tackles and also contributed on offense with nice runs. But the Renaud/Gebauer combo scored again with a 29-yard TD, with Lemke’s PAT, which gave the Red Raiders a commanding 21-0 lead at the half.
With nine minutes in the third, Young went left for a 16-yard TD run, with Lemke’s PAT, which put Kaua‘i up 28-0.
Waimea answered just about 50 seconds later with a Daniel Lizama 77-yard jolt to the left side of the line, which put the Menehune on the board, 28-6, as the Kelly Batis PAT failed.
At the four minute mark, Young came through with his third TD of the game on a 9-yard run, with Lemke’s PAT, for a 35-6 Kaua‘i lead.
Just two minutes later, Kupa Graycohea of Kaua‘i intercepted a Waimea pass and took it seven yards for the touchdown, as Lemke connected on yet another PAT, to give the Red Raiders a 42-6 advantage.
In the fourth, Kaua‘i’s Micah Alayvilla came up with the final score of the game on a 52-yard TD run to make it 48-6 in favor of the Red Raiders, as Lemke failed on his final PAT attempt.
