House Rep. Hermina Morita beat Republican challenger Mamo Cummings in the 14th House District race in last night’s General Election.
By a margin of 4,629 votes to 3,254 with all 6 precinct votes in for that legislative district, Morita, a Democrat who has advocated the protection of the environment and Hawai‘i’s energy self-sufficiency, beat Cummings, a former president of the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce.
Cummings had advocated more support for small businesses and called for strengthening the tools of law enforcement officers to fight crime and the spreading use of drugs.
Morita, D-North, Kaua‘i (14th House District), said victory was not a certainty due to negative campaigning by Republicans, using fliers that attacked her record.
