Jason Sorensen and his wife Brittany of Oma‘o came upon two rusting hulks Saturday in the shorebreak near Queen’s Pond at Polihale.
Sorensen reported that large sections of the long white sand beach at Polihale have been washed away by the huge surf of the past week.
He surmised that the two vehicles, which still have treads intact, might be World War II vintage tanks.
While not the scene of a modern-day battle, Westside beaches have been used for military training exercises for decades, including a 1957 landing filmed for the Hollywood film “South Pacific” that feature hundreds of marines and sailors.
