The Kaua‘i AJA baseball league split their games to accommodate their time to watch the Super Bowl. On Saturday, at the Vidinha Stadium, Lihu‘e outlasted Makaweli I I-8.
On Sunday morning, at Hanapepe Stadium, Kalaheo beat Hanapepe 14-3 to remain unbeaten in 4 games, while handing Hanapepe their first loss after their 3 victories in a row. Lihu‘e’s record is I win and 3 losses, while Makaweli is winless with 4 losses.
In the first game, Lihu‘e scored 7 first inning runs and 2 runs each in the 2nd and 8th innings to beat Makaweli I I to 8. Lihu‘e pitcher Mikey Cardinez got his first win of the season by pitching 4 innings, giving up 6 hits, I run and striking out I batter.
Lihu’e’s Stanton Yoshimori and Barry Kawamura also pitched in relief. Makaweli pitcher Braden Hiraoka took the loss, giving up 7 first inning runs. Relief pitcher Jason Nakata came in to put out the firery Lihu‘e batters by getting the last two outs in the first inning. Nakata then pitched 8 more innings and gave up 4 runs, scattered 4 hits, walked 3 and striking out 6 batters.
Hitters for Lihu‘e were: Curtis Sadamitsu 2 for 3, a double, and 3 RBI’s, Dan Tanimoto a single and 2 runs scored, Tommy Cox a single, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s, Mikey Cardinez a double with 2 RBI’s, Aaron Adachi a double, I run scored and I RBI, Stanton Yoshimori a single, I run scored and I RBI.
Hitters for Makaweli: Issac Castillo a single, 2 triples, a sacrifice an 2 RBI’s, Gordon Muramaru 2 singles, 2 walks, Royce Ijima single, double and I RBI, Davis Oshiro a single, Brad Chiba a triple, Kevin Agena a double, Reid Tanita a single, Lance Nakata a pinch hit sacrifice with I RBI, Trent Shimabukuro and Kyle Nakagawa each with an RBI single.
In the second game, Kalaheo’s Kaina Mc-Callum blasted a 5th inning 3-run home run and Kaleo Saiki drove in 3 runs with a base hit in the 8th inning to lead his team to a 14-3 victory. Kalaheo pitcher Liko Pereira pitched 7 innings, gave up 7 hits, 3 runs, walked 2 and strucked out 3 batters to win his 3rd game with no losses. Hanapepe absorbed their first loss of the season. Hanapepe pitcher Kevin Suga took the loss, but muscled a solo home run in the 6th inning in the losing cause. Suga got hit by a pitch twice.
