Another big win for Mickelson
PEBBLE and that BEACH, Calif. — Phil Mickelson took all the thrills out of Pebble Beach, was just fine by him.
Despite back-to-back bogeys that gave the final round Sunday about five minutes of intrigue, Mickelson won for the second straight week by closing with a 1over 73 to become the first wire-to-wire winner in the 68-year history of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
The only thing he didn’t do on a cold, damp day along the Pacific was set the tournament scoring record. Mickelson finished at 19-under 269, missing by one shot the record set seven years ago by Mark O’Meara.
Still, it was the first time in his career he had won in consecutive weeks. Even more alarming is the margin of victory, especially for a guy who usually keeps it entertaining to the very end.
He won by five shots last week in Phoenix and wound up winning Pebble by four shots over Mike Weir.
Going into this year, Mickelson had won his previous eight PGA Tour events by a combined nine shots, three of those in playoffs.
Lihu‘e baseball signups
The Lihu‘e Baseball League is currently having its 2005 Mustang, Bronco, and Pony season registration.
Eligible players are: for Mustang division, born between Aug. 1, 1994 and July 31, 1996; for Bronco division, born between Aug. 1, 1992 and July 31, 1994; for Pony division, born between Aug. 1, 1990 and July 31, 1992.
Application forms can be picked up at the portable building adjacent to the Lihu‘e baseball field (across from the Convention Hall).
Registration will be held on Tuesday, February 22, to Monday, February 28, from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. excluding Saturday/Sunday.
Parents must provide 2 copies of their child’s birth certificate and 2 copies of their medical insurance card at the time of registration.
Registration Fees are as follows: Mustang & Bronco $75.00 per child/Pony $100.00 per child.

Strength clinic is coming
Bob Rowbothan from BFS (Bigger, Faster, Stronger) will be coming to Kaua‘i on Feb.19 to conduct a coaches clinic. It will be held at the Raiderdome at 3 p.m. and will last an hour or two. Primarily, football coaches should attend but, all who are interested are welcome. For more information, visit www.bfs.com.
Relay for Life softball tournament
The Second Annual Open Men’s Softball Tournament (Connie’s Fighters and Survivors) will take place at the Waimea Canyon School Ballpark from March 11-13. Entrance fee per team is $175. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
