HONOLULU — The Senate on Monday confirmed Kathleen Watanabe as a judge with the Fifth Circuit Court on Kaua‘i.
“After all Ms. Watanabe is a Kaua‘i girl. She is a graduate of Kapa‘a High School and she has done her school and her island proud”, state Sen. Gary Hooser, D-Kaua‘i-Ni‘ihau, said in testimony on the Senate floor.
Watanabe’s nomination won approval on a wave of strong testimony in support from her colleagues and Kaua‘i community members and leaders.
She has most recently served as director of the state Department of Human Resources.
Watanabe served as a per diem judge on Kaua‘i from 1995 to 1998; and was County’s Attorney from 1990 to 1994. She is a graduate of the University of Hawai‘i William S. Richardson School of Law and University of Puget Sound.
