PO‘IPU – The Waimea High School boys and girls swept their series over the Island School Navigators, 5-0, 5-0 in the KIF Tennis matches that were hosted by Island School at the Kiahuna Tennis Courts, Saturday, Mar. 26.
Top singles player Sonya Tacub was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Jasmine Blaine while Kelsi Naumu took the No. 2 match on a default by Jennifer Ray. Naumu went on to take Juli Blachowiak, 8-1 in a girls’ consolation match.
Ciera Sherman and Tori Kagawa also took their top doubles match by default from Dianna Cowern and Sky Smith.
Kristine Sison and Mitzi Seto teamed up in the second doubles match to take Tayler Dabin and Natasha Arruda, 6-1, 6-1 with Ema Agmata and Lovely Abalos also topping Georgina Ferrier and Melody Yeung, 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 3 doubles game.
The Menehune boys continued the march to victory as No. 1 singles Joseph Mecham defeated Andrew Jones, 6-4, 6-0 and No. 2 singles Kolin Morikawa sweeping Kevin Dhorne, 6-0, 6-0.
Bryan Hayashi and Peterson Dela Cruz continued the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Justin Pelton and Andrew Rowan. The No. 2 doubles team of Scott Lopez and Jake Anderson also handled Akira Nordmier and Fabio Villa, 6-0, 6-1, with the No. 3 doubles team of Scott and Nathan Martin defeating Eric Talvi and Noah Randolph-Flagg, 6-1, 6-0.
Scott Martin finished the day with an 8-4 win over Sam Dunham in a boys’ consolation match.
The Menehune will host Kaua‘i High School this coming Saturday at the Hanapepe Tennis Courts starting at 12 noon.
