Former Kaua‘i High School standout golfer Shelcie Takenouchi finished the State Women’s Match Play Championship as the runner-up to 11-year-old Cyd Okino on Wednesday at the O‘ahu Country Club.
Takenouchi, who will be heading off to USC as a golf walk-on in the fall, was upended by Okino, 1-up.
With the win, Okino became the youngest winner of the event. The 18-year-old finished in sixth-place at the 2005 HHSAA Girls Golf Championships, which was good enough for a medal.
Takenouchi helped the Red Raiders finish up with an impressive fourth-place showing at this year’s state championships.
Last season, as a junior, Takenouchi played a big part of the 2004 Kaua‘i High School girls’ state title squad.
