Team Kaua‘i — Mites dominated their only competition, the O‘ahu Mighty Menehunes winning 4 games easily by a combined score of 24-3.
Kaua‘i brought home the championship trophy for the second year in a row. The top scorers were Matthias Davis with 6 goals and 1 assist, Jean-Luc Tremblay with 4 goals and 3 assists, and Kawai Peahu with 4 goals and 2 assists.
Daniel Alonzo was outstanding in goal and along with the defense of the Mite team held the Menehunes to few scoring chances.
Squirt Division (10-and-under
Team Kaua‘i and the O‘ahu Go Bananas battled to the end in the championship game with Kaua‘i coming out on the short end 5-4. Kaua‘i blasted Mililani 11-0 and Maui 10-3, before losing to O‘ahu in preliminary pool play 4-1.
Despite having hockey equipment stolen from their hotel and what parents said was some dubious hometown officiating, the Squirts nearly came away with the title.
Most of this young team are still eligible for this division next year. Trevor McCracken led his team with 8 goals and 5 assists, while Noah Cullen contributed 4 goals and 2 assists and Sierra Mayer had 2 goals and 4 assists.
Grant Basquez and Reese Whetsel were outstanding in goal.
Peewee Division (12-and-under
Team Kaua‘i — Peewees surprised everyone by making the finals giving the O‘ahu Da Kine a scare before losing 5-3. Kaua‘i beat Mililani 4-2 and Maui 5-2, before losing to Oahu in preliminary pool play 7-0.
Just as they led their team to the Kaua‘i YMCA league crown in April, Maegan Pablo and Zeb Leech-Kritchman paced the team with 6 goals and 3 assists, and 5 goals and 3 assists, respectively.
The goalie tandem of Soane Latuniupulu and Chad Dorman turned aside scoring opportunities for the opposition.
Midget Division (17-and-under
Team Kaua‘i — Midgets lost their 3 games, but gave a good account of themselves despite being very young with two 13-year olds playing up. All of this team is still eligible for next year.
Kaua‘i lost 5-2 to eventual champion Mililani, 3-1 to O‘ahu and 8-7 to Kona.
Sam Nevius led the way with 5 goals, Shane Shimanuki contributed 2 goals and 3 assists, and Keala Davis had 2 goals and 2 assists.
