Racquetball is definitely on the rise for 2005. Kaua’i Athletic Club was honored to host a free Team Ektelon Racquetball Clinic/Play the Pro’s event conducted by Kane Waselenchuk: the current 2-time top-ranked Men’s International Racquetball Tour Professional player, along with Kim Russell, a top-ranked ladies professional tour player with 10 Major National Doubles Championship titles.
Pastor Frank Puni offered a blessing for the event and the food, and set the tone for a very special evening. They started with a question and answer session, followed by a “live” demonstration.
Then they both went into separate courts and played a game to 11 points against anyone that wanted to “Play with a Pro.” Kane ended up playing against two players at one time, after everyone had their fill of singles, while Kim played doubles the whole time.
Two words that Kane highly emphasized to being numero uno are: dedication and focus. It is especially important in racquetball with ball speed exceeding 180 – 200 mph. Being that Kim is a Doubles Champion, she emphasized: communication with your partner is the key to winning doubles.
When you really think about it, dedication, focus and communication will not only help to get better in racquetball but in everything else that you do. Kane and Kim are true ambassadors to the sport of racquetball.
They would like to thank the fabulous Kaua’i Athletic Club staff for doing a superb job with hosting the premier event. Hat’s off to Director Philip Eliana for organizing the event, Lauri Puni, Maureen Higa, Ryan Domingsel for running the check-in desk, Pastor Frank Puni for his opening blessing, Steve Kaui for donating lei, Gerald Miller for his photography, Bulla Eastman from O’ahu with bringing in the new equipment line, Marlene Eliana from Pictures Plus for donating Koa frames, Sone’s Deli and Catering for their great-tasting food, and especially all the players and spectators who came out to make this event a success.
