LIHU‘E — Two people who were arrested in a Lihu‘e neighborhood Thursday pleaded innocent in Kaua‘i District Court Monday to felony drug charges.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, July 13, by the court, for Ronald A. Dejos, 35, a Wahiawa, O‘ahu resident also known as “Bong,” and Alexys N. Legowicz, 26, of Honolulu.
Both are charged with first-degree promoting a dangerous drug — a class-A felony — as well as third-degree promoting a dangerous drug, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Both are being lodged at the Kaua‘i Police Department lock up, with Dejos facing bail of $100,000, and Legowicz’s bail set at $23,000.
Dejos’ higher bail is the result of previous convictions, including, in 2001, when he was sentenced in Fifth Circuit Court to five years in jail for third-degree promoting a dangerous drug. He also was convicted of three misdemeanors and one petty misdemeanor, a liquor violation involving a minor.
State attorney general’s records do not reveal any prior convictions for Legowicz in Hawai‘i.
According to county prosecutors, the pair were arrested following a brief vehicle pursuit near Jerves Street. The Ice Task Force Narcotic Enforcement Unit and the Kaua‘i Police Department officers reportedly confiscated an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine at the scene.
Dejos is represented by defense attorney Randal Valenciano, who requested his client’s supervised release. Judge Trudy K. Senda took the request under advisement, but it was not granted Monday.
County Prosecutor Craig De Costa is handling the case.
