At the start it looked as though the Red Raider boys’ volleyball team had everything in control, but the Menehune fought back and sent the match to five sets.
But Kaua’i held off Waimea in the fifth set, 15-10. The Red Raiders took the first two sets, 25-14, 25-18. The Menehune controlled the third set, 25-16 and the fourth set was up in the air until the end, but Waimea pulled it out, 27-25.
The loss dropped the Menehune to 0-2 on the young season. Meanwhile, the Red Raiders stayed one game back of first-place Kapa’a at 1-1. On Saturday, the Warriors will face the Menehune in Waimea. The first game, which is the girls’ contest, starts at 5 p.m. The boys follow no earlier than 6:30 p.m.
The JV round robin tournament shifts over to Kaua’i High School on Saturday.
