Stanley “Stan” William Souza Sr.
Stanley “Stan” William Souza Sr. died on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at Straub Hospital at the age of 69.
Born in Kealia on Sept. 16, 1935, he was preceded in death by his parents Ida and Joe Souza, grandparents Antone and Matilda Machado, and Sister Barbara O. Rapozo.
He worked for the Corps of Army Engineers and later for Lihue Plantation as a truck driver, irrigation supervisor, harvesting supervisor, herbicide supervisor, shop superintendent and retired after 35 years, as manager of Kauai Sugar Storage. He also serviced the community with his own trucking business, Stan Souza’s Trucking.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Julia L. Ornellas Souza; one sister, Bernadette (Kenneth) Vidinha of Wailua Homesteads; one daughter, Laurie Souza of Kapa’a; and four sons: Russell P. (Vernalyn) Souza of Wailua Homesteads, Stanley W. Souza Jr. (Hollie) of Kapa’a, Paul K. (Adi) Souza of Kapa’a, and Jerry J. (Shaunne) Souza of Kapa’a; 12 grandchildren: Kayla, Rustan, Stanley W. III, Chelsea, Megan, Taybree, Ian, Christy, Brittney, Bryson, Ryan, and Waldo; two greatgrandchildren: Leilana and Kailea; aunt, Eleanor Andrade of Wailua Homesteads; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many great fishing partners.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with service to follow on Saturday, Sept. 24, at St. Catherine’s Parish. Scattering of his ashes will be done at a later date.
