Basketball coaches clinic coming up
By Duane Shimogawa Jr. – The Garden Island
The Hawai’i Basketball Coaches’ Clinic has another line-up of accomplished coaches for the 2005 coaches’ clinic. Kaua’i basketball coaches are encouraged to attend this extremely helpful event.
On Saturday, October 8, at centrally located Damien Memorial High School gymnasium, the basketball tip-off event of the year will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The theme for this year’s clinic is “Basketball from Far and Wide Comes to O’ahu.”
The clinic will provide an opportunity to learn a wide variety of offensive and defensive ideas from coaches from Vermont, Kentucky, Illinois, North Carolina, Oregon, and the Big Island.
The 2005 Hawaii Basketball Coaches’ clinician staff will feature Larry Doty from Linfield College in Oregon. Speakers will also include Coach Len Scaduto, UH Assistant Coach; Kelly Wells, the new Head Basketball Coach at Hawaii Pacific University; Maurice Maggiolino, the new Assistant Basketball Coach at Chaminade University; Jimmy Yagi, former coach at UH-Hilo, and Alan Lum, certified Positive Coaching Alliance clinician from Punahou. Their clinicians, who come from excellent backgrounds, will provide you with ideas, drills, methods and techniques that they have used in their respective areas of the country.
Additional information about the Hawaii Basketball Coaches’ Clinic will be released as we get closer to the event. Registration forms are now available at all schools, PAL offices, city and county recreation sites, and military bases. If your team/league is not included in the above list, contact Chic Hess at 263-3310 or at chichess@hawaii.rr.com.

Ginez, Udaundo rule
It turned out to be a beautiful weekend for r/c racing and Sunday was a dominating day for Dennis Ginez. With no letting up, Ginez had one thing on his mind and that was to win and he did just that, by winning all mains. It was also a great day for Noel Udaundo, who battled James Carvalho for the win.
