Aid to husband was much appreciated
On June 27, 2005, my husband, Roy Anderson, was in a potentially life-threatening accident on a beach on Kaua‘i, the name of which escapes me at this time. Our son-in-law, Bob Valdez, had taken him out to teach the art of snorkeling. What started out as an exciting vacation adventure quickly became a nightmare. My husband almost drowned. Due to the quick action of Bob, along with a host of wonderful, caring people who were on the beach that afternoon, Roy was quickly pulled to shore. My son-in-law said that two men appeared out of nowhere to aid in that part of the rescue. Then, as Bob started CPR on my non-responsive spouse, two women who are nurses showed up and were able to take over the resuscitation efforts until the paramedics, who had been called by an observer, were able to take over.
My husband pulled through with no adverse consequences thanks to all these Beach Angels!
Wilcox Hospital took on the next steps. The treatment was quick, knowledgeable. The concern that all involved showed, especially toward our eleven-year old granddaughter who was snorkeling along with her grandpa, still brings a lump to my throat.
As a final note, my husband’s ID cards and credit cards got displaced in the water and on the sand. The ID card was found almost immediately. The credit card was found later and duly reported to the bank. It is an honor to have been served by honest people.
Words are inadequate to properly express our thanks to all these wonderful people who participated in our unforgettable adventure.
I wanted to find a way to give credit to all these unselfish persons who so quickly came to a stranger’s aid.
