With both the Kapa’a girls and boys squads sitting pretty with 2-0 records, Waimea and Kaua’i will face off in crucial matches tonight at the Clem Gomes Gymnasium, starting at 5 p.m.
Both the Menehune and Red Raider boys and girls teams are 0-1 on the young season.
A loss could prove to be a tough pill to swallow for any of the squads, which would put them back two games and essentially out of contention for the first round title, especially the way the Warriors have been playing.
The most exciting match of the season, the five-set juggernaut between the Kaua’i and Kapa’a girls is a heavy indication of how close both squads seem to be.
The Kapa’a boys and head coach Merrill Carvalho have reversed roles with Kaua’i, as far as talent goes.
“I tell the boys to just go out, have fun, and not get too pressured out,” Carvalho said.
The Warriors, who are ranked 11th in the state, have yet to lose a match so far this season.
“It feels really good to win, but we have to be prepared to play every game or we’re not going to do so well,” Carvalho said.
