LIHU’E — Chavis Kupihea and Brandon Chong supplied the fireworks for the Warriors, who blitzed Waimea, 14-0 last night at Vidinha Stadium.
With the victory, Kapa’a improved to 2-2-1 on the season and Waimea fell to 0-4-1.
Kupihea scampered 41 yards for the first score at the 6:52 mark in the first quarter. Ikaika Fuerte kicked the extra point for the 7-0 advantage.
The Warriors took the 7-0 lead into the halftime locker room, as the Menehune offense failed to come up with any type of success in the first half.
On defense, the Warriors came up with the big plays, as William Valente-Gonsalves recovered a fumble deep in their own territory, which upheld a Menehune scoring drive early in the second half.
After a Warrior punt, Kaiwi Machado marched down the field, giving Waimea another scoring chance, but Niko Kimura recovered a fumble, which halted the Menehune drive once again.
Chong capitalized on the Waimea miscue by scoring on a 14 yard run, which handed the Warriors the 13-0 lead. Fuerte converted the PAT for the 14-0 final score.
KIF football continues on Friday, as the Red Raiders celebrate their homecoming against the Warriors.
The JV contest begins at 5 p.m., with the varsity game starting at 7:30 p.m. Kaua’i clinched the KIF JV title last week.
The Red Raiders are 4-0 so far this season.
