The Hawai’i State Racquetball Doubles Championships was recently held for the first time on the Valley Isle, Maui at the Family YMCA in Wailuku. Players from all around the State and as far as Georgia came to compete in 6 Divisions. 3 players: Philip Eliana, Laura Goo and Liko Villatora represented Kauai and placed in three divisions.
Philip Eliana teamed up with Stan Lanias from Maui and entered 3 Divisions: Men’s Open/A, Under 45 (Seniors), and 45+ (Masters).
In the Men’s Open/A and under 45 Divisions, they did well and made it through to the semi-finals before being eliminated.
In the 45+ (Masters), they made it to the finals and won in straight games to officially claim the 2005 title of Masters 45+ State Doubles Champions.
It’s a sweet win for Philip since coming in 2nd place at the last tournament held on Kaua’i in April.
For Laura Goo’s first off island tournament, she did a terrific job teaming up with another player (Brenda Baroso) from Maui that she’s never played with and came in 2nd place in the Women’s Open/A Division.
She also teamed up with Liko Villatora in the Mixed Open/A Division and made it through to the semi-finals before being eliminated.
Along with teaming up with Laura Goo in the Mixed Open/A Division, Liko Villatora also teamed up with Maui player Byron Tabisola to win Consolation in the Under 45 (Seniors) Division. They also made it through to bottom half of the semi-finals in the Men’s Open/A Division before being eliminated.
Great job to the Kaua’i players: 2005 Masters 45+ Doubles Champion Philip Eliana. Women’s Open/A Doubles 2nd Place winner Laura Goo. Under 45 Consolation Doubles winner Liko Villatora.
