Dionicio Villanueva
Dionicio “Johnny” V. Viernes Villanueva of Hanama’ulu died at home on Oct. 2, 2005 at the age of 84.
Born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Oct. 6, 1920, he retired as a heavy equipment operator with Lihue Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by his wife Emilia Villanueva of Hanama’ulu, one son Philip (Marlene) Villanueva, one daughter, Nellie (Leo) Bunao, all of Kapa’a, one brother, Clemente (Dionie) Villanueva of Honolulu, five sisters, Laureana Calaycay, Albina (Monico) Viernes, both of Hanama’ulu, Eugenia (Isaac) Agcaoili, Corazon Villanueva, Divina Gapusan all of the Philippines, four grandchildren; Ryan of Las Vegas, Tyler, Danielle, Bradley of Kapa’a, numerous relatives, nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Immaculate Conception Church from 9 a.m. with Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. by Fr. Bill Shannon. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens in Kapa’ia.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.
Pedro I. Idica, Jr.
Pedro I. Idica, Jr. of Kekaha, died Sept. 22, 2005, at Nagongburan Sinait, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, at the age of 63.
Born in Nagongburan Sinait, Ilocos Sur, he retired from the sugar cane plantation.
He is survived by his wife: Marcelina (“Marci”) Idica, of Kekaha; son: Romio Idica, of Honolulu; daughter: Velma (Romy Jr) IdicaButac of Lihu’e; brothers: Rudulfo Idica, Costante Idica, Juan (Lucrecia) Idica, Arturo (Vilma) Idica; five grandchildren: Xavier, Jonathan, Chason, Chathan and Jorryn; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in the Philippines. A memorial service wil be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary at 3 p.m.
Casual attire (no black please) is requested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Isabella R. Silva
Isabella R. Silva of Kapa’a, died Sept. 26, 2005, at Straub Hospital at the age of 77.
Born May 7, 1928, in Kapahi, she was a homemaker.
Preceded in death by her husband, William I. Silva, she is survived by seven children: Naomi (Manuel) Emproso, William S. Silva, Diane (Don) Okuno, Dean (Glenda) Silva, Leila (Julian) Fernandez-Cardoso; Jewel (Solomon) Kalima, and Daniel K. Silva; 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua’i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Elizabeth Ann Buck Schrader
Elizabeth “Betty” Anne Buck Schrader of Kapa’a, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, at the age of 58.
Born Aug. 16, 1947, in Danville, Va., she is preceded in death by her parents, William Charles Buck and Elizabeth Anne Powell Buck.
She is survived by her sister, Susan (Bob) Trayor of North Carolina; sons: Ka’aukai (Sandy) Schrader of California; Ka’ulana (Liza) Schrader of O’ahu, Kanaloa Schrader of Kapa’a and Alapai Schrader of Kapa’a; five grandchildren, one nephew and many hanai children and grandchildren.
A casual memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 15, at Anini Beach (end of the road, Grandma Lizzie’s) at 2:30 p.m. Refreshments will follow at the family’s residence in Kapa’a.
Arrangements were handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
Lucy Keating Burns
Lucy Keating Burns of Scottsdale, Ariz., and formerly of Kaua’i, died Oct. 6, 2005, at the age of 78.
Born Feb. 4, 1927, in Chicago Ill. to Arthur and Pearl (Littman) Keating, she moved to Arizona two years ago from Newport Beach, Calif., Ojai, Calif. and Kaua’i.
She was a nationally recognized watercolor painter with special showings in galleries on Kaua’i and in California. She was also an acclaimed gourmet cooking teacher in California.
She is survived by six daughters: Julie Ann Wrigley, Patti Boyd Gentry, Laurie Bidegain, Wendy Collins, Loni Monahan and Robin Alden; and 13 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Edward Keating. She is also survived by caregivers Valerie Lovering and Donna Matson.
