A special presentation on the effects of crystal methamphetamine, or ice, will be given by an attorney from the county prosecutor’s office at the Hanama’ulu Ka Leo O Kaua’i meeting today, Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the King Kaumuali’i Elementary School cafeteria.
According to county Community Response Specialist Theresa Koki, the presentation is being made in response to concerns expressed by Hanama’ulu residents about illegal drug use and drug-dealing in their community.
“A lot of people told us they’re very concerned about this, and are interested in finding ways to combat this problem, so we made arrangements for the prosecutor’s office to do a presentation on this issue,” said Koki.
“I encourage everyone to attend this informative meeting. This is an essential starting point for residents to become part of the solution.”
Prosecuting Attorney Craig De Costa said he is pleased that lawyers in his office can assist with community efforts to curb illegal drug use and drug dealings.
“In trying to control the methamphetamine problem on Kaua’i, community involvement is critical,” De Costa said.
“Our office applauds the efforts of residents who are willing to be more involved in their community to take on this fight. We stand ready to work closely with those residents, along with the police and other law-enforcement agencies,” said De Costa.
