After clinching its first KIF title in 11 years, the Kapa’a boys volleyball team refused to go home after a quarterfinal match in the 2005 New City Nissan State Boys Volleyball Championships on at Punahou School.
The Warriors took down Hana in two sets, 25-17, 25-23 yesterday.
Chaz Galvez and Lyndon Pascual each had six kills to lead the Warrior attack. Danny Rodrick accounted for eight digs and Galvez followed up with six digs. Pascual managed to garner three blocks for Kapa’a.
Kapa’a, the fourth-seeded team in the tournament, plays tonight at 8 p.m., against the winner of the top seed, Hawai’i Baptist and ‘Aiea.
Meanwhile, the KIF champion Warrior girls team fell in the first round of their tournament, but came back to win a consolation bracket contest over Hana, yesterday, 25-13, 25-17.
Kaimuki fought off Kapa’a in three tough sets, 25-21, 16-25, 25-22.
Poe Gantt led the way for the Warriors, despite nursing an injury.
Gantt put down seven kills against Hana and Amniesty Ragsac led the Warriors with 10 digs. Brittney Carvalho paced Kapa’a with three blocks. The Warriors play tomorrow for the consolation championship, against the winner of the Kona/Saint Joseph match.
