LIHU’E — Kaua’i County Planning Commission members were pressed earlier this week to develop a regional plan to deal with traffic, sewage and water needs in East Kaua’i, before giving any approvals to two new resorts proposed for the Waipouli corridor in the Wailua and Kapa’a area.
Kekaha resident Bruce Pleas said the two projects together involve the building of a total of 525 multi-family units, some hotel rooms, and nearly 1,000 parking stalls.
The impact of existing visitor-accommodation complexes in East Kaua’i and the potential impact from the two proposed projects, will adversely affect the quality of life in the region, Pleas indicated.
The size of both projects demands government officials and the developers work out traffic, wastewater and water concerns before the commissioners consider either project, Pleas said.
Coconut Plantation Holdings LLC officials are proposing to develop their 12-acre project, called Coconut Plantation Village, on the north side of the Courtyard by Marriott Kauai at Waipouli Beach.
