Waimea’s Brian Martin was the top KIF boys shooter and he also made a mark at the 2005-06 air riflery state championships on O’ahu.
Martin finished with the fifth best score with a 515 total. Waiakea’s Regan Ancheta was the top shooter with a 540. Punahou won the boys state title with a total of 2,041. Waimea shot a 1,969, which was good enough for fourth place in the state.
Other top Waimea shooters inlcuded Tyren Sakuda with a 491, Chris Aguilar with a 487, and Nathan Martin with a 479.
Kaua’i’s Aaron Braun (481) and Kendall Kusaka (475) finished with respectable marks.
The Menehune girls picked up a fifth-place finish with a 1,936. Punahou took the girls state title with a 2,100. Sheila Ramos led the Menehune with a 507, which grabbed a 13th-place medal.
Lynell Wright tallied a 496 and Kelly Joyce followed with a 487. Island School’s Kelli-Rose Hooser notched a score of 470 and Waimea’s Jenni Ueno shot a 451.
