HANAMA’ULU — Monday was a Waiver Day for public-school students, and that worried organizers of the 31st Annual College & Career Fair.
“I thought we were going to be slow,” said Gerry Johanson, president and general chairman of the Hawaii College & Career Fair Committee said.
“But, Donna (A’ana-Nakahara) is great!”
A’ana-Nakahara is the Kaua’i coordinator and, with the help of the high school counselors and other volunteers, pulled together an event that saw a steady stream of students and parents flow through the doors of the Kauai Beach Resorts (formerly the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort) off Kuhio Highway near Hanama’ulu yesterday afternoon.
Kapa’a High School Counselor Nellie Okamoto and Kaua’i Community College’s John Constantino were on duty to ensure that students registered at the desk before entering.
They would later be relieved by volunteers from the staff of Kaua’i High School, who were occupied with their waiver-day activities.
Volunteer students from the Waimea High School National Honor Society manned the sign-in desk for students.
Patrons to the annual event were greeted by over 100 vendors representing institutions of higher education and career fields, as well as financial-aid programs that enable students to further their educational options following high schools.
