Michael Nii
Michael Noboru Nii of Lihu’e, died at home on Dec. 15, 2005, at the age of 60.
Born in Lihu’e, on March 24, 1945, he was a self-employed Attorney at Law.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ann Nii; three sons, Robert T. (Christy) Nii of Lihu’e, Christopher K. (Pamela) Nii of Honolulu and Michael N. (Megan) Nii Jr. of Las Vegas; four grandchildren, Kailee, Kamden, Kanoa and Ashlyn; brother, Donald (Natalie) Nii; sister, Gladys Fujiuchi; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, at the Lihue Hongwanji; service officiated by Rev. Kondo will begin at 3:30 p.m. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Barbara Ann Jarvis
Born at sunrise in New York City on July 2, l943, Barbara Ann Jarvis died at sunrise on Nov. 28, 2005, in Lihu’e, at the age of 62 after battling a long illness.
Barbara was a devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend. Prior to moving to Kaua’i, she received her BA from Beaver College in Pennsylvania and was a producer and editor of the recently re-released documentary “Winter Soldier” which was a study of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War. A veteran filmmaker, she was invited to the Cannes Film Festival to receive the Director’s Award for documentary films and worked on such films as “The Salesman” and “Gimme Shelter.” On Kaua’i, she was a fine and performing artist, tai chi instructor, an active member of the Kaua’i Society of Artists and volunteer with 4-H in Kealia. Barbara received her MA from Goddard College and became an elementary school teacher, teaching in Kapa’a and at Na Kamalei in Kilauea.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Serena Jarvis, mother, Lucille Jarvis, and brother, Peter Jarvis. A celebration in her honor is planned for New Year’s Day at 4:30 p.m. at her home in Keapana. A charitable foundation will be established in her honor.
Robert German
Robert German died at the age of 59 on Dec. 15, 2005, at his home in Wailua, with his wife of 32 years, Kathy, and sons, Joshua and Justin, by his side.
Born on Aug. 2, 1946, he was a graduate of San Jose State University. A businessman on Kaua’i for over 30 years, he had been resident manager of the Kauai Surf Hotel, general manager of Kiahuna Plantation, president of Moana Kauai Corp. and most recently owner and principal broker of Aloha Island Properties.
He served as Kauai Board of Realtor’s president in 1992, was named Realtor of the Year in 1992, and was on the MLS Hawaii Board of Directors for seven years. He also served on the Salvation Army board, the Wilcox Health Foundation for 12 years, Poipu Community Association, Kauai Chamber of Commerce, and sponsored many youth athletic groups in the community. Cremation was done by Borthwick Mortuary, by request there will be no service.
The family requests no flowers. Donations may be made to Kauai Hospice. They also send thanks to everyone involved in his life and a special thanks to his best friend Jimmy Wray for always being there.
Jacqueline Jung
Jacqueline Jung, 60, died in New York City on Dec. 9, 2005.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Jung and their sons: Kimo, Gavin, Elliott (Amy) and Ian (Kristen).
Having earned masters degrees in social work and education, Jackie retired from the Department of Education to engage in private practice and pursue her love of traveling the world and helping others.
Jackie, best known for her high energy level and caring spirit, volunteered in the Peace Corps in the Philippines, Habitat for Humanity in New Zealand, Portugal, Alaska, Hungary and Kaua’i’, the American Cancer Society, and KEO as a mediator. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross, whom she represented immediately after the Sept. 11 disaster at Ground Zero in New York City.
Cancer started to take its toll on Jackie during her recent trip to Morocco. After hospitalizations in London and New York City, she lost her fight to this dreaded disease.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Kaua’i on Feb. 5, 2006; time and place to be announced at a later date.
