No team could stop her this season. In fact, only an injury heading into the state tournament slowed her down.
But it was still a remarkable season for the Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation girls’ varsity volleyball Player of the Year, Poe Gantt of Kapa’a.
The junior led the Warriors to the consolation title in this year’s state tournament.
Her aggressive style was tough on members of opposing teams. Gantt also earned All-Star honors as an out-side hitter.
Second-year Warrior head coach Kaipo Kealalio III garnered Coach of the Year accolades for his brilliant style of coaching that pushed his team to their limits.
The other KIF girls’ varsity volleyball All-Star outside hitters are Amniesty Ragsac (Kapa’a, senior) and Tina Moger (Kaua’i, senior).
Ragsac was relentless all season long, and her great attitude inspired her teammates.
Moger, last year’s Player of the Year, should move on to play at the college level, as either a setter or a defensive specialist. Her skills rank near the top of the state.
Kapa’a’s Brittney Carvalho, a junior, and Brytney Lanning-Yadao (Waimea, sophomore) are the All-Star middle blockers.
Carvalho’s thunderous hits and timely blocks enabled the Warriors to go on the offensive at crucial moments of the season.
Lanning-Yadao, the only sophomore on the All-Star team, was a menace to opposing teams, and her willingness to hustle kept the Menehune in most of the 2005-06 contests.
Kapa’a junior Crystine Ito earned the libero All-Star position. Ito gave the Warriors a great defensive effort through-out the season.
For the second straight season, Kapa’a’s Joliann Arzadon claimed the All-Star setter’s spot.
Arzadon is the glue for the Kapa’a attack, and without her services, most would argue that the Warriors would have been hard pressed to find success.
The 2005-06 KIF girls’ varsity volleyball All-Stars were chosen by a panel of coaches and members of the media.
